{from alethea} the other sister

Our older sister is having a baby! We're a little excited about the matter as it will be our first niece or nephew (yes, they are keeping us in suspense - it's killing me!).  What to do while we wait to meet the little babe - throw a fantastic baby shower, of course.  Honestly, picture taking took a back seat to hosting the little shindig - but here's a little peek...

I won't even lie - designing invitations is always my favorite part of a party.  Since we don't know if it's a boy or girl, i just decided all bright colors were acceptable.

Cupcakes were had, silly games were played, presents were opened - this child is already on it's way to being very, very over loved. I cannot wait to meet him or her!!

{from ruth} rainy day

It is raining in Orange County! Which is something that doesn’t happen often, but when it does requires a complete change in wardrobe. While preparing to walk the ten feet to my car this morning I realized I own precisely one pair of rain worthy shoes and zero umbrellas. Despite my lack of preparedness for the weather, I love the cloudy skies and rainy day. It makes me think of Singin’ in the Rain with Gene Kelly and consequently the cute clothes the girls wear. This pondering inspired a search for cute rain gear I can equip myself for the next time it rains, fully aware that as soon as I buy a rain coat the rain will stop and not return for months!

{from alethea} inspiration

The clip boards above my work space:  part inspiration, part things I haven't figured out what to do with.    This week, it's neutrals with bright pops of color, gold and grey, and textural items.

{from, alethea} Oh hello, I'm Alethea

I am a graphic designer/illustrator and older sister of this duo.
I love coffee more than I should, typography to a embarrassing degree and spray paint with a deep rooted passion. I love listening to podcasts, exploring new places, reading books, pretending I know how to sew, new music of almost any kind and designing.  I love designing.
I am an obsessive doodler and constantly carry a moleskin (or three) in any purse I own.  I have a thing for tape, paper products and well packaged goods of any kind.
I find inspiration in so many things - illustrators of the past, the energy of a city street, beautiful+delicious meals and outfits I see my sister wearing.
I can't wait to get started on this blog and let you share in what Ruth and I already do - inspire each other and make beautiful things!

{from, ruth} Hi, I'm Ruth

In three months I will be an ‘officially graduated’ designer and creative writer. And in nine months I will wear a white dress and change my last name. I am excited to start sharing things that inspire me and things that Alethea and I work on. To explain the dynamics of our work, I would say Alethea is the modern-clean design voice and I am a vintage-eclectic tone. I go to as many flea markets and thrift stores as possible and rejoice at finding beautiful old books and pretty little glass vases. Surprising color combinations and hand illustrations are some of my favorite design elements. I find inspiration in fashion, architecture, and stories: novels, children’s books, short stories, poetry. I love black and white TV, eating at fancy restaurants, Disneyland, Ella Fitzgerald, and anything chartreuse.

introduction...

We're so excited you're here! We are Alethea and Ruth - sisters, artists, best friends and admirers of lovely things.  This collaboration is years in the making and really, we can't wait to start sharing with you the things that inspire us most.
We'll be taking turns blogging so the title of each post will say who the author is {from, alethea} or {from, ruth}
